The beloved trio of Charles, Oliver and Mabel, played by Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez respecively – reunite in season five, bringing the wry chemistry that made the series a cult favourite back to our screens. Also confirmed to reappear are fan-favourites including Meryl Streep as Loretta Durkin-Putnam (teased in a playful video with Selena Gomez that nods to The Devil Wears Prada), Michael Cyril Creighton as Howard, Jackie Hoffman as Uma, and Da’Vine Joy Randolph as Detective Williams.
The already impressive cast is enhanced by a glittering lineup of newcomers, including Téa Leoni, who made a brief but memorable appearance in the season four finale. For season five she steps into a larger role as Sofia Caccimelio. Two-time Oscar winner Christoph Waltz and Academy Award winner Renée Zellweger headline the guest stars, joined by a number of starry supporting actors: Richard Kind, Nathan Lane, Keegan-Michael Key, Bobby Cannavale, Dianne Wiest, Beanie Feldstein, Logan Lerman, and Jermaine Fowler.
Where was Only Murders in the Building season 5 filmed?
Since filming for the season five began in March 2025, the production team has been spotted in several of New York’s most recognisable locations. Recently, the cast shot scenes on Staten Island close to the famous house immortalised in The Godfather, while the Belnord, a grand, 13‑storey apartment block on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, continues to be the real‑life building that inspired the Arconia, and once again lends itself as a filming location for season five.
What is Only Murders in the Building season 5 about?
If you are not a fan of spoilers, we suggest you look away now. The plot of season five focuses on the murder of the Arconia’s beloved doorman, Lester ( played by Teddy Coluca), whose body is found in the courtyard fountain at the end of season four. Refusing to accept it as an accident, Charles, Oliver and Mabel embark on an investigation that soon takes them beyond the Arconia.
Co‑creator John Hoffman has hinted that season five will be especially rooted in place, exploring “past versus present” New York to “tell a particular kind of take from a New York angle”. He added that season five will explore the Arconia’s secret past in greater depth.
The new season is set to tackle themes of gentrification and the displacement of longtime New Yorkers, with Lester’s death acting as the spark for a wider look at how the city has transformed over the decades. Hoffman has also said he hopes the series can run “as many seasons as they’ll have us for”, he told Screenrant – a sentiment that seems to align with Hulu’s interest in continuing Only Murders in the Building beyond this latest season.
