Buttenshaw Library History

The library was named in memory of Norrie Buttenshaw, who was appointed Mayor of Carlyle Gardens Retirement Resort. Norrie and Doreen were the first residents of Carlyle Gardens Lifestyle Resort, Condon, in April 1997.

The library started with only two bookshelves, in the old office building. The first volunteer librarian was Jean Goldstraw, who still helps replace books on shelves. Missa Madden was involved for a number of years before retiring from the position. Phyllis looked after the Thuringowa books, and eventually the entire library. Valda Horn helps the library. Helen Rattlidge handles Recent Releases.
