With artificial Christmas trees ranging from well under £100 at the lower end of the scale to in the thousands of pounds, it can be hard to know where the sweet spot is for good value as well as solid quality in a tree that will last for years to come (and be ever more economical year on year, in environmental as well as financial terms!). After taking a handful of the very best Christmas trees on offer in 2025 for a spin, we determined that the Pre-lit Woodland Pine Christmas Tree from British retailer John Lewis & Partners, was a great option for affordability as well as excellent quality. If this is your first time diving into the world of artificial trees, this great value one would be an excellent place to start. We've outlined our experience of this tree below.

Initial impressions
John Lewis have a great range of trees on offer in their online Christmas shop, from affordable unlit Christmas tree options, to luxury pre-lit ones. Our choice sits somewhere in the middle. This John Lewis Christmas tree is available in two sizes, 6ft and 7ft. We went for the larger version, which costs £50 more than the smaller one. The impressively high tip count, at 1,778, results in the tree having a dense, incredibly full look. The tree is more conical in profile than our pick for best overall artificial Christmas tree, The White Company's Symons Nordmann Fir. This is something to consider when imagining the space where your tree will stand in the home.
We thought the deep emerald colour gave the tree a really natural effect, with variations in tone and texture of the tips to aid this and give depth. One thing we noticed was the overhang of some of the outer branches up and down the tree, which really helps to avoid a too uniform look and increase realism.
Assembly and contents review
At around 10kg in total weight, this tree was light enough for solo assembly. It was incredibly easy to put together, and the hinged, malleable branches were quickly manoeuvrable into place to reach the desired effect. The metal stand felt sturdy, which is so important with a large tree as you definitely don't want it keeling over when fully decorated! It might be worth investing in a Christmas tree skirt to use with this tree, in order to cover up the stand, which although practical, isn't particularly attractive.
As we decorated the tree, it held the baubles well, without branches drooping under the weight of them, something that can make your tree look a little sad as well as risk decorations falling off and breaking. We didn’t use a tree topper decoration with this particular tree, but we think it would look very smart with a small star.
The tree is made up of three sections, and the lights have to be connected on all three sections, something which was marginally fiddly but overall pretty easy to do. Certainly easier than spending an age untangling a box of string lights that were hurriedly packed away the previous year! The lights themselves are evenly distributed throughout the tree, and provide a nice warm, twinkly glow.
Delivery
Ordering this tree qualifies for free standard delivery, which is quick with a timeframe of 2-5 days. The tree arrived in a standard long box, which wasn't too large or heavy. Getting it back into the box was a bit of a challenge, and it would probably need to be taped up to keep it closed if you're planning on storing the tree in this box.
John Lewis Pre-Lit Woodland Pine Christmas Tree verdict
With lights included, an impressive tip count and a tall height which will make a great centrepiece in a living room, we think that you get a lot with this John Lewis Christmas tree for its price. It balances affordability, functionality and a lifelike appearance for the very reasonable price tag of £250 for the 7ft iteration.
