Carlyle Gardens Computer Club

Carlyle Gardens Computer Club was founded around 2002.

Computer Club Room

The computer club room has a broadband connection to the Internet since late 2008 (thanks to the co-operation of Leigh and Resort Management). The computer club room now has a number of desktop computers using Microsoft Windows connected to the internet. The Carlyle Gardens Social Activities Club kindly contributed towards provision of a laptop computer for presentations.

Infonites

The Carlyle Gardens Computer Club holds Infonites every month or so. These are informative evenings introducing some topic or hobby in which a computer is involved. The topics covered can be very wide ranging.

Past Infonite topics in 2008 have included: Wal demonstrating scanning (May 2008), and Pat on compiling an autobiography (June 2008). Introducing the internet (July 2008) had Clive booking accommodation, Bob selecting and booking airline flights, Pat looking up White Pages and the Bureau of Meteorology, with Kevin on miscellaneous topics. August 2008 was the Annual General Meeting. Pat O'Brien was tweaking photographs with Picassa in Sept 2008. Wal Watkins did computer magic in November 2008.

Infonites in 2009 included: Allan Moore presenting a slideshow with music and voice over in February. Carlyle Gardens Project Manager Peter Kirkham gave a presentation on optical fibre to the home and future proofing Carlyle Gardens in March 2009. Visitor Paul Brown presented genealogy and family history, in May 2009. City Librarians Alicia and Dawn went through the library database online in the June 2009 presentation. Wally Watkins presented Look, No Hands, on voice recognition in the July 2009 Infonite.
